Identify the material behind the finish
Paint, plaster or tile does not identify the structural material behind it. Ask the installer to establish whether each proposed fixing location is concrete, solid masonry, hollow block or another material. Photograph the proposed locations and record any uncertainty before accepting a fixing detail.
Do not select an anchor solely from the visible screw head or the appearance of a nearby installation. The base material, its condition, available depth and distance from edges all affect the selection. A fixing described for concrete should not simply be assumed suitable for a hollow-block location.
Questions to put in the survey record
Ask which anchor product is proposed for each surface and what supporting installation information applies. Confirm how the fixing location will be checked for hidden services and whether the proposed track position changes the available edge distance or access for installation.
If the substrate is uncertain or deteriorated, ask what further assessment is required and who will approve the solution. A written change should explain any revised fixing arrangement, additional work and effect on the quotation. Avoid accepting a generic assurance that a stronger screw resolves every condition.
Keep the whole system in view
The cable, track, fixing and supporting building material act together. A component description does not establish the performance of the complete installation. Ask how the selected arrangement has been checked for the opening and intended use, and retain any applicable assessment documents.
At handover, ask the installer to identify the supplied fixings and explain inspection and maintenance arrangements. Record concerns such as damaged finishes, movement or incomplete work so they can be reviewed through the agreed servicing route.
Top Grills declares SS 316 stainless steel cable with a 2.5 mm cable core for its offered system. Confirm the actual components, mounting detail and limitations in the written project proposal. A product description is not a test report for your building.
Review the system information or contact the team with photographs, opening measurements and your questions.
