Record the existing condition before choosing a product
Measure from the finished floor to the top of the existing railing or parapet and record where each measurement was taken. Photograph changes in level, steps, raised finishes or fixed items close to the railing. A measured sketch gives the project team a clearer starting point.
This checklist does not prescribe one legal railing height for every building. Applicable requirements depend on the project and the relevant authority. Request the current approved requirements from the building or appropriate project professional instead of relying on an unsourced universal number.
Document the whole opening
Record the opening width, height above the railing, side returns and locations of columns or other fixed elements. Mark operating doors and windows, drainage points and equipment that must remain accessible.
Identify the proposed fixing locations separately from decorative finishes. Ask how the substrate will be assessed and whether the proposal changes access, cleaning or use of the balcony. Do not assume that an added cable layout replaces any requirement applying to the existing railing.
Confirm approvals and the written scope
Before installation, clarify which building or society permissions are required and who is responsible for obtaining them. Keep the agreed layout and installation scope with that correspondence. A standard brochure image does not establish approval for a particular building.
At handover, compare the installation with the agreed layout and check the operating and access requirements that were recorded during the survey. Retain care information and an inspection contact so later changes can be assessed against the documented project rather than memory.
Top Grills declares SS 316 stainless steel cable with a 2.5 mm cable core for its offered system. Confirm the actual components, mounting detail and limitations in the written project proposal. A product description is not a test report for your building.
Review the system information or contact the team with photographs, opening measurements and your questions.
